Building the City through Music

MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall, located on the west side of JR Kawasaki station, celebrated its grand opening on July 1, 2004, on the occasion of Kawasakifs 80th anniversary of incorporation, as the symbol to promote the concept of gKawasaki-City of Musich

The City of Kawasaki proudly offers a diverse range of music resources. This includes a number of music schools, four orchestras comprised of citizens, and over 100 private or company-affiliated choirs and wind orchestras. In addition, the City of Kawasaki is honored to welcome the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra as the franchise orchestra of the MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall in providing its residents with truly world-class music performance at this state-of-the-art concert hall.

With the above background and through fostering more arts and culture offerings, especially in music, and bringing forth local and regional vitalization as well as creation of new commercial opportunities, the city is endeavoring to enhance its image and develop a new urban living environment, to which every one of its residents-the true pillars of urban planning-can hold a sense of pride and affection.

In the cityfs concept of music-oriented urban development, the city government provides its support and cooperation to private initiated activities and programs while the private sector plays the main, leading role in promoting public interest in music and driving forward the gKawasaki-City of Musich project with MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall as the focal point of this concept.

MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall The term MUZA was coined by combining the MU from gmusich and the Japanese suffix ZA, which means a place where people gather. The main hall of this magnificent facility is designed in the vineyard style in which audience seating spirally surrounds the stage in a continuous 360-degree arc, creating a sense of unity between both performer and audience.
