Kawasaki Municipal Science Museum for Youth

The Kawasaki Municipal Science Museum for Youth is a natural science museum located within the Ikuta Park with well-preserved green space.

Space
: The planetarium changes its theme every month and offers shows, solar observations open to the public, and star gazing events.

Nature
: Nature walks are held in the abundant natural setting of the Ikuta Park.

Science: Classes, such as 21st century children's science and parent-child hands-on classes, are held to inspire interest in science.

The museum's most outstanding attraction is the planetarium featuring the 4.1 million star projector MEGASTAR II Phoenix developed and produced by the sole effort of Mr. Takayuki Ohira, a Kawasaki resident living in Tama ward. With this projector, the Milky Way, which looks like a wispy cloud to the naked eye but in actuality a concentration of faint stars, can be clearly observed. General planetariums use a faint band of light to project the Milky Way, but MEGASTAR II projects a concentration of many faint stars to give a sense of depth to the starry sky and make the projection look like true boundless space.
