真の恒久平和と安全を実現することは、人類共通の念願である。
しかるに、核軍備の拡張は依然として行われ、人類の生存に深刻な脅威を与えている。
わが国は、世界唯一の被爆国として、被爆の恐ろしさ、 被爆者の苦しみを声を大にして全世界の人々に訴え、再びこの地球上に広島、長崎の、あの惨禍を繰り返させてはならない。
このことは、人類が遵守しなければならない普遍的な理念であり、我々が子孫に残す唯一の遺産である。
川崎市は、我が国の非核三原則が完全に実施されることを願い、すべての核保有国に対し、 核兵器の廃絶と軍縮を求め、国際社会の連帯と民主主義の原点に立って、核兵器廃絶の世論を喚起するため、ここに核兵器廃絶平和都市となることを宣言する。

It is the common desire of mankind to bring about a genuine and permanent
state of peace and security in the world. However, nuclear arms expansion
is continuing and poses a serious threat to the very existence of the human
race.
Ｊapan, as the only country to have suffered a nuclear attack, must communicate
loudly to the people of the world the horror of the atomic bomb and the
agony of its victims, and must never allow the disasters of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki to be inflicted again on the earth. This is a universal ideology
that mankind must observe and is the only bequest we can leave future generations.
To ensure adherence to Japan's Three Non-nuclear Principles, to achieve
disarmament involving the abolition of nuclear weapons by the Nuclear Powers,
and to arouse public opinion to strive for the eradication of nuclear weapons
on the basis of international solidarity and democratic principles, the
City of Kawasaki hereby declares itself a city devoted to peace and the
abolition of nuclear weapons.
