| The name "Saiwai" means good fortunate and happiness. Although once a village named Komukai and renowned for its plum blossoms, the area was renamed commemorate an auspicious visit by Emperor Meiji. The shape of the town is now undergoing huge transformations, as can be seen at the west exit of Kawasaki Station and the areas surrounding Shin-Kawasaki Station and Kashimada Station, where old factory buildings and the remains of JR Tsurumi Switchyard have experienced renovations. This ward area also enjoys a rich natural environment that includes, but is not limited to, the Tama River, Tsurumi River and Yagami River, as well as the Kaseyama Forest, where Yumemigasaki Zoological Park is located.
The symbols of "Kawasaki - City of Music", MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall and LAZONA Kawasaki Plaza, are situated near the west exit of Kawasaki Station and attract visitors from both inside and outside of the city. In order to help counteract the falling birthrates and increase of the elderly within society, the Saiwai Ward is putting a great deal of effort in policies to improve child care in the community, as well as support local activities that contribute to urban planning through the cooperation of ward residents and the city administration. |
