In aiming to realize a society where all residents, including the aged and elderly can always live independent and healthy lives within the community, the city has developed solid social security programs. These include policies focused on health and well-being of its residents, plans that address problems of its increasing elderly population as well as local support and welfare programs, all of which contribute to maintain and enhance the local safety net for all who live in the city.

In addition, the city has looked to create a dependable system for health care that links institutions and people involved in the fields of medicine, welfare, and insurance. The city also encourages mutual assistance and cooperation in the community in order to support a safe and secure living environment for all city residents.


Kawasaki Municipal Kawasaki Hospital, a leading hospital in the region that meets the standards set by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care "Rakuda", the welfare vehicle that serves as a means of transportation for patients of incurable diseases and their family. (Service started in October 2005)

The Kawasaki Physically Challenged Persons Association provides assistance for the independence and social participation of the physically challenged in the city.
