Creating a Healthy Environment through Sports

Hometown Sports Promotion Partners Program

Sports in Kawasaki are very popular. Each year, many residents participate in events held along the Tama River such as Tamagawa Run Festa and Canoe Class.

In addition, Kawasaki offers a series of sporting events hosted by top athletes and teams engaged in competitive sports in the city-termed Hometown Sports-in order to foster a sense of togetherness, passion, and pride among its residents. In promoting its Hometown Sports events, Kawasaki has established a program called "Hometown Sports Promotion Partners Program" which allows it to work collaboratively with its promotion partners on urban development and encouraging any sports related activities.

In July 2006, Fujitsu's American Football team, Fujitsu Frontiers, was certified as the city's hometown sports promotion partner. So far, a total of six sports, seven teams, and one individual have been certified as Kawasaki's hometown sports promotion partners. These sports promotion partners will actively take part in events and interact directly with local residents through inviting the citizens to home games, as well as providing lectures and instructions on sports.

Comprehensive Community Sports Club

Comprehensive community sports clubs are voluntary groups formed and managed by local residents who gather at and utilize their neighboring school grounds (within their junior high school district) to enjoy various sports activities. These groups or clubs welcome people of all ages, from children to senior citizens, to come together in meeting new friends, and enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
