Other Eco-Strategies

現在経済発展途上にある国や都市にとって、持続可能な開発を進めていくにあたり、公害対策で培った高い環境技術の集積を有する川崎は、さまざまな情報を入手できる環境情報の宝庫でもあります。
これらの取組を実際に研究しようと、フォーリン ・プレスセンターを通じた海外通信社からの視察を始めとして、中国、韓国、インド、東南アジアの各都市からの視察や、国連環境計画（UNEP）、国連工業開発機関（UNIDO）などの国際機関からの視察が年々増加しています。川崎では、臨海部のエコタウン地域における廃棄物リサイクル・再利用などの資源循環の取組や、先進企業の社会貢献（CSR）、市民活動団体の環境への取組など、日本の中でも最先端の取組を数多く見ることができます。

With the advanced environmental technology it has amassed through its anti-pollution strategies, Kawasaki is a treasure trove of environmental information with a vast array of data for countries and cities with developing economies, particularly those on the road to sustainable development.
Each year the cit y sees an increasing number of tours by representatives from the international media through the Foreign Press Center Japan, from cities in China, Korea, India and Southeast Asia and from organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Kawasaki has on display a large number of the most advanced initiatives in Japan such as resource recycling, including waste recycling and reuse, in coastal Eco-Town areas, as well as advanced corporate social responsibility initiatives and citizen action group environment initiatives.

日本の環境研究の中核的役割を担っている国立環境研究所と川崎市は、環境と経済が調和した持続可能な社会の実現と低炭素社会の構築に寄与することを目的に、基本協定を締結しました。本協定のもと、相互の持つ強みを活かして環境技術による国際貢献をより一層進めていくことを目指しています。

In order to contribute to achieving a sustainable society which promotes a harmonious integration of environment and economy and foster the creation of low-carbon society, the City of Kawasaki has concluded a basic agreement with the National Institute for Environmental Studies, an organization with plays a central role in Japan’s environmental research. On the basis of this agreement, the City of Kawasaki and the National Institute for Environmental Studies seek to enhance their global contribution through environmental technologies using mutual strengths.

The City of Kawasaki is engaged in efforts to popularize the use of Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) as an environmental management accounting method which is useful for both the environment and the economy.

Kawasaki Selected for the “FY2009 Low Carbon Environmental Management Accounting International Standardization Project (Material Flow Cost Accounting Introduction Demonstration /Domestic Countermeasures Project)”

The City of Kawasaki was selected for the Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) Introduction Demonstration Project, which is being carried out in business associations in various regions of Japan under the “FY2009 Low Carbon Environmental Management Accounting International Standardization Project” sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). In order to encourage resource-saving and energy-saving efforts by companies in Kawasaki, the city has participated in MFCA Introduction Demonstration Projects since FY2007, and is also performing consulting for the introduction of MFCA in a local company. This is being carried out in combination with internships aimed at training human resources who will be responsible for guidance in the popularization of MFCA.
