Returning the Foreign Resident Registration Certificate

The Foreign Resident Registration Certificate should be returned in person when a registered foreign resident leaves Japan (at the port of departure) or is naturalized as a Japanese citizen. In the case of a death or if the foreign resident is under 16 years of age, the certificate should be returned by someone age 16 or older from the same household.
