January 1st New Year’s Day A day to celebrate the beginning of the New Year
Second Monday in January Coming-of-Age Day A celebration for people who have reached the age of 20 (official adulthood)
February 11th National Foundation Day A day to reflect on the founding of Japan and to encourage love for our country
Spring Equinox Spring Equinox Day A day to appreciate nature and living things
April 29th Greenery Day A day to nurture the mind of getting closer to nature, and to appreciate it
May 3rd Constitution Day A celebration of the establishment of the Constitution of Japan
May 4th National holiday  
May 5th Children’s Day A day to remember the happiness of our children and to appreciate mothers
Third Monday in July Marine Day A day to appreciate the blessings of the ocean
Third Monday in September Respect for the Aged Day A day to appreciate elderly people, who have worked for the benefit of society for such a long period of time
Autumn Equinox Autumn Equinox Day A day to honor our ancestors
Second Monday in October Health and Sports Day A day to enjoy sports
November 3rd Culture Day A day to remember freedom, peace, and to promote cultural endeavors
November 23rd Labor Day A day to honor working people , and for working people to appreciate each other
December 23rd Emperor’s Birthday A celebration of the emperor’s birthday

Though not national holidays, the period of August 13th-16th is the Obon festival season in Japan, and many companies are closed during this period.
