Community where the richness of local resources is utilized for development

The Asao Ward was officially established on July 1, 1982, being separated from the Tama Ward as a part of Kawasaki’s administrative district reorganization plan.
The area around Shin-Yurigaoka Station buzzes with artistic and cultural events thanks to Showa Academia Musicae, the Kawasaki Art Center, and other local art-related facilities. Many events are held year round, including “Kawasaki Shinyuri Art Festival (Arte Ricca Shinyuri),” “Asao Music Festival,” “Kawasaki Shinyuri Film Festival,” and “Kirara @ Art Shinyuri.”
The ward’s strengths also include; academic resources such as the “Four-University Collaborative Learning Network” (an agreement among Showa Academia Musicae, Tamagawa University, Den-en Chofu University, and Wako University), the “Japan Institute of the Moving Image”, and the “Kurokawa Farm of Meiji University”; industrial resources including Microcomputer Kawasaki City with many R&D facilities in electronics and other advanced technology fields; natural and agricultural resources such as “Ozenji Furusato Park” and “Ceresamos” (a large-scale direct sales store); and sport resources which are closely related to communities, such as the “Asao Sports Center” and the training ground and dormitory for players of “Kawasaki Frontale”. With these local resources, it is being strived to make the ward even more attractive.?
