Kawasaki-City Japanese House Museum

This is an outdoor museum which has a purpose of preserving old Japanese houses disappearing rapidly.

Getting there
By Train: Take an Odakyu-line train to "Mukogaoka-Yuen" station. Go out of South exit and take a 12 minute walk.
By Car: From Tomei highway, turn left at an exit of Kawasaki interchange, and turn right at the cross-section of "Inuzo" and go straight about 10 minutes.
From Setagaya-Machida line road, turn to the direction of Kawasaki at "Tama Keisatsusho Mae" sign, turn right at the cross-section of "Inao-Bashi" and go straight about 2 minutes.
From Kawasaki-Nakahara Kaido road, turn at the cross-section of "Inao-Bashi" and go straight about 2 minutes.
Parking lots are limited, so it is recommended to use trains on Sundays or Holidays as there are many visitors.
Main Attraction
* More than 20 houses including typical old houses in the eastern Japan, a water mill, a boat house, a Takakura (storage house with high floor) and Noson Kabuki (Kabuki as a ritual of the countryside) theater.
* Exhibition on basic information about Japanese old houses (at main building)
* Exhibition of stone-carved items such as Dosojin (scalpture of God of Travel), Koshinto, Bato-Kannon (scalpture of Female God with Horse Head) and milestones at outdoor. Exhibition of daily tools including farmer's tools, a hand loom, straw crafts and bamboo crafts in the houses.
* schools and presentations about Japanese traditional tools

Admission Fee
Adult (20 year old or more) 300 yen
Child (6 year old to 20) 100 yen, Student 100 yen
Group discount (10 % ) is available with 30 people or more. Advanced contact is required.

End-and-beginning of year (December 27 to January 4), Inspection day of the museum
Please call to the museum about operation on the day which is a national holiday and also Monday.
Restriction
* No drinking, eating or smoking is allowed outside of designated area.
* No pets are allowed in the museum.
* No music are allowed such as portable radios and musical instruments.
* No taking photographs of items in the museum are allowed for commercial use.
* Permission are needed for activities listed below. For getting permission, call to the museum office.
  1. Publishing of photographs of items in the museum.
  2. Using a tripod or an easel.
  3. Using items of the museum.
  4. Stepping on floors in houses of museum for research.
* There are other rules to keep materials in the outdoor museum. Please keep rules.
