Hosting the Quantum Summer Camp
In collaboration with the University of Tokyo and IBM Japan, we have held the Kawasaki Quantum Summer Camp for high school students every summer vacation since fiscal 2022.
In this four-day program, participants learn about quantum-related technologies through introductory lectures and programming exercises, then present their ideas for the kind of future that could be created using quantum computers. Since fiscal 2024, we have also hosted a follow-up event, Kawasaki Quantum Meet Up, to help build a community of quantum talent.
Some past participants have already gone on to pursue research in the quantum field.
Voices from Participants
I was very satisfied with the program as a whole. I felt that my understanding deepened thanks to the careful guidance from the TAs and the clear instruction from the IBM Japan lecturers. Even the practical programming sessions were designed in a way that sparked my intellectual curiosity and greatly increased my motivation to learn.
It was genuinely interesting, and while it was challenging, it was not so difficult that I wanted to give up. Instead, it was the kind of challenge that made me excited. The time allocation and volume of each part of the program were also very well balanced.
Expanding the Base of Quantum Talent
To broaden the base of quantum talent, we have been developing a systematic year-round quantum learning program. Since fiscal 2024, this has included the Quantum Programming Experience Course for high school and university students, and in fiscal 2025 we also launched the City's first course for junior high school students.
